OUR STORY

As many immigrants from Europe during the 1940s, Henry and Miriam Berkowitz were looking for the American dream. The Berkowitz family first arrived in New York City in 1949, after World War II. Henry believed in working hard and finding the best way to provide for his family. He also longed for the smell of green grass, fresh air, open fields and the cool breeze of the ocean. Henry and Miriam wanted to find a way to build a business, support their family and still surround themselves with nature’s best elements.

Friends told them of the growing Agricultural business in New England. Rhode Island seemed like the perfect place for their dream to become a reality. Henry found his niche in the RI Agricultural business with eggs. In August 1955, Henry opened The Berkowitz Egg Farm. The business grew over the years and Henry passed down his business to his sons, Eli and Ralph Berkowitz. Nestled amongst the trees of rural Foster, RI, today the company is called Little Rhody Foods, Inc. and as proud owners, Eli and Ralph follow the same principles of their father: hard work, strong ambition and impeccable customer service. The company has several varieties of eggs on the farm, including their premium line, Little Rhody Natural Eggs. Most recently, Little Rhody Foods has expanded their business to include the distribution of other local RI products.

Making a Difference

A yearlong collaboration between the Joe Andruzzi Foundation and Little Rhody Foods has just launched. The effort aims to raise money for the foundation to help cancer patients and their families with nonmedical expenses. Part of the proceeds from sales of large-sized Little Rhody Natural Eggs will go to the foundation.
